The next 30 years will be filled with conflict between the will of the people and a hard right 6-3 Court who took their seats, at a young age courtesy of Donald Trump and the GOP and will sit there for the rest of their lives. They will make their decisions based upon ideology whenever human rights and cultural issues are involved and not on whether a law or at lower court decision is consistent with the Constitution.. That is a given ..unless the makeup of the court is reformed by angry voters changing the Senate blue. The Christian evangelicals made their bargain with the devil, to forgive Trump of all of is immoral sins and flawed character transgressions to save the unborn in the first trimester. Also in danger is the protected gender identified rights of so many Americans liberated from discrimination by prior court decisions as these ideologues carry out their religious driven imperatives of intolerance of the LBGTQ community. These are not "conservatives" that conserve existing norms and values.; They are regressive radicals with an uprooting agenda of turning back the clock on years of settled law after societal views had already moved on.
The evangelicals may also have got more than they bargained for. We are likely to see the end of affordable quality health insurance needed b.y those who get born in order to lead a healthy and long life. By forcing the vote on the nominee before the election, Democrats may be able to dramatize the extent of the trampling of the right to life of those already born.
Normally Court nominees are asked by the Senate Judicial Committee to give their position on issues coming before the Court and usually, the answer is for the nominee to be coy or to avoid the answer by saying they will not comment on issues coming up. . There is nothing coy about ending overturning Roe v Wade regardless of how the nominee responds. Ending Roe v Wade has been the agenda of the GOP for the past four years and only anti-choice nominees have ever been offered by the GOP.
To the dismayed much younger voters than me who have been disappointed that Bernie is not the candidate, a total sweep of the White House and Congress might happen to fix some of the damage if they stopped grousing and voted. It is their lives that are at stake, not those of us past childbearing age and on Medicare., though Trump seems not to care if we over 65 survive COVID or not.
