Wise up, consumers, to the price of eggs and gas at the pump updated 2/3/2025..

Wise up, consumers.. Trump gets an egg on his face and an oil glut. Blaming Biden for inflation and then wondering why grocery prices cannot be reversed by executive order is a bit like when your car won't start; you blame a dead battery when the starter is the problem. So you buy and install a new battery and then wonder why the car still does not start. It's like the price of eggs issue/ If you blame the wrong reason for price increases, fixing it becomes a problem. Drill baby drill is not the issue, either. We already have too much crude as a glut, which makes drilling uneconomical for the industry.

2/2/2025 Update There will be political fallout from the Trump's tariffs: Trump says Americans could feel 'some pain' from tariffs as he threatens more import taxes | AP News Do you really think fentanyl is more painful than inflation and higher grocery, housing construction, gas at the pump prices? This is going to hit MAGA voters in the gut, but "keep the faith, baby", it will all make America Great again. MAGA voter: did you sign on for pain? This happened on and because of Trump's watch.

White House Reacts to Rising Egg Prices and Shortages, blaming Biden for inflation is total BS, blaming the wrong problem, but making a lot of noise may mask Trump's inability to fix it , while using it to score political points.  It ignores the egg industry price gouging excess profits record and the current bird flu epidemic that caused the price hike as Trump took office the second time, as well as trying to pin the blame on Biden for inflation, which is equally bogus. Pointing their fingers fixes nothing. They can't fix it, so they use the opportunity to make political hay and try to excuse an embarrassment ...or egg on his face, so to speak... with hokus pokus..

While cultural and racial issues motivated many voters for Trump in 2024, some fell for the line that the reason grocery prices inflated was due to Biden's economics. Inflation was under 3 percent when Biden left office in January. Taking the average of inflation over 4 years is intellectually dishonest because it fails to give him credit for what he acheived. This under 3 (2% is optimum) is what Trump has got at the beginning of his second term from Biden. What happens now is on him.

Let's go back to the Biden years when the price of eggs because the cause celebre. Remember? It wasn't Biden. It was COVID causing supply chain shortages as industry revived what had been put on ice (Remember the empty toilet paper shelves and videos of shipping containers piled up on docks?). Consumers had COVID government money in their pockets and plenty of jobs and back to work to buy and pent-up demand. as retail stores reopened. Immediately after the pandemic ended.Corporate greed was a factor as some masked unjustified price hikes by blaming Biden. High corporate profit, especially by the egg industry, was evidence of their strategy. (Also, bird flu is causing the current spike in egg prices, not Trump) One of the first campaign promises Trump broke after being elected was to say it was too hard to roll back grocery prices. He warned he couldn't do it, but he was only honest about that after he got elected.. He deceived so many. To keep the drum roll going, Trump media allies are hawking Biden's fault to divert attention from Trump's own admitted predicted failure. Wise up, consumers.

The same can be said about "drill baby drill" to bring gas at the pump prices down. First, the problem is not a lack of crude oil. Biden's policies increased drilling so much that the oil industry cannot find enough customers to buy it at the price that it is now. There is a glut of crude oil available. Pumping more oil is not the problem. FYI: Presidents do not set the price by barrel; it is set internationally by cartels. Those who believed Trump's line that Biden was to blame is a cover for Trump's campaign line, "Drill baby drill." Drilling more crude was not the problem, baby. The adjustment to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the attempt to adjust to the loss of that supplier to Europe was as much at fault and still ongoing. Nonetheless, as Biden left office, gas at the pump prices was under $3 a gallon. Wise up consumers.

There are signs consumers are beginning to wise up, per the Wall Street Journal, as consumer confidence measures drop in January. U.S. Consumers Lose Confidence at Start of Trump’s Second Term

Consumers are in for more education about grocery prices if Trump carries through with his tariff plans and they learn more about gas prices at the pump if he clamps tariffs on oil coming from Canada. Stay tuned.

This avian flu thing is beginning to sound familiar.  Egg shortage 2025: Prices expected to rise throughout the year

Cracking Down on Egg Industry’s Excuses: It’s Price Gouging | Farm Action   in 2023."The egg industry blames avian flu and inflation for increasing egg prices. These problems are certainly real — about 43 million egg-laying hens were lost due to the avian flu through December 2022, and input costs for producers have increased. But this begs the question — how are egg companies raking in so much money in light of these costly strains?"

Trump''s disturbing abuse of power already includes declaring faux national emergencies

Trump's disturbing abuses of power already include declaring faux national emergencies to get around laws and regulations that stand in his  way.  https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-fires-17-independent-watchdogs-multiple-agencies-late/story?id=118097873

Besides abusing pardon powers to release all of the January 6 rioters, including seditious ones and leaders of violent militias, or trying to amend the constitution with an executive order to overturn birthright citizenship, Trump also has begun abusing power by declaring national emergencies to circumvent laws, court rulings, and administrative law. If he finds the rule of law a barrier to his plans, will he just declare some bogus national emergency to get around it? He is already done it with his two recent orders: "drill baby drill" to screw environmental laws and regulations and preparing to ignore federal posse comitatus laws to send active troops to the border to enforce US domestic laws. In both cases, the US does not need to drill for more oil because oil companies already have more oil than there are customers for it, and they hold 40 years' worth of leases with verified oil underneath that is yet to be drilled. Illegal border crossing due to Biden and Mexico is now 73% down in one year. Both "national emergencies are bogus, but his voters backed him as campaign promises they expected him to enact on day one. He and his ardent supporters dismissed facts and data that showed the improvement in the price of gas at the pump and the fear of more "dangerous" brown people populating America after he tanked a bi-partisan funding bill that would have finished the wall and funded personnel to catch more illegal border crossers.

The BS of "drill baby drill"; makes unnecessary useless

FYI, "drill baby drill" folks: Why are the prices at the pump still so high? They are not, per most recent news. Update 12/9/2024:  Average price per gallon is $3.03 today; in Colorado: $2.80.The Democrat response so far to "drill baby drill" has been that we are pumping more oil than ever. This is correct, but it sounds evasive and does not seem to be connected to pump prices consumers are experiencing. https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/30/business/gas-prices-labor-day-inflation/index.html

For Trump, " drill, baby, drill" is a chant that appeals to Trump's base supporters. It makes sense to them, but it is nonsense. It is making the unnecessary useless. The "drill baby drill" Trump's answer to prices is simplistic bull whacky. Our problem is not a supply of crude oil; we already have so much we are exporting. Pumping more crude is a BS non-solution. If oil interests think they can make a case for more leases, they have to overcome this fact: we already have enough leases undrilled to provide oil in the US for decades and much longer for natural gas. This is making unnecessary useless in dealing with the issue at the pump prices. Proved Reserves of Crude Oil and Natural Gas in the United States
Trump is spouting this BS because he hopes he can get away with it because the answer is complex. Perhaps he hopes oil barrons will contribute $1 billion to his campaign.  No president, Biden, Trump, or Harris can control the price per barrel of oil. The prices are set in markets by oil cartels and many other factors, as the above CNN article describes. At a critical time, Biden released the Strategic Reserves to force prices down by increasing supply. Trump's "drill baby drill" The answer""better energy to power America. That's our future".updated 9 1 2024

The MAGA right chants that only oil can or should meet future needs when they cheer Trump's"drill baby drill." Here's an answer to that. The "drill baby" should be replaced by "better energy to power America" because we need to stop being victims of foreign oil cartel price setting, foreign wars, and the disasters of climate change. Those are the challenges in our future, and oil drilling, the answers of the past,  will not meet them.

Update: Sept. 1, 2024

Why are the prices at the pump still so high? They are not, per most recent news ). Reality check: prices at the pump now are less than a dollar more per gallon than they were in December 2019, just before COVID struck and Trump was president. The Democrat response so far to "drill baby drill" has been that we are pumping more oil than ever.

The "drill baby drill" Trump's answer to prices is a simplistic Our problem is not a supply of crude oil; we already have so much we are exporting. BS that he hopes he can get away with because the answer is complex. No president, Biden, Trump, or Harris can control the price per barrel of oil. The prices are set in worldwide markets by oil cartels and many other factors as the above CNN article describes. However, presidents can cushion the impact on consumers by being smart about it. They are becoming more energy-independent, technology savvy, and innovative while taking temporary measures as needed, including using less environmentally damaging bridges in the future, like natural gas. Yes, it is a matter of supply v demand. The US currently does not have a supply problem that drives prices up. International events and the pandemic have caused wild swings in gas prices at the pump beginning in 2020.  Biden deserves credit for releasing the strategic reserves and increasing oil pumping

The goal should be meeting "energy needs " and not "oil" needs. Going greener adds to "energy" production, not subtracts from it.,  while oil and natural gas serve as a bridge to a greener future. Natural gas, at least, is less polluting than gasoline. Nuclear and hydrogen power are important parts of the future and are green. Thanks to Biden's leadership, wind, solar, and batteries are becoming cheaper more prevalent, and efficient, and more of them are made in America. This greater reliance on "green" will increase in the future. It is in our national and consumer interests that we stop being victims of foreign oil cartels while addressing global warming disasters as we are experiencing now. Note Harris's reversal from opposing fracking for natural gas to supporting it, which shows a pragmatic flexibility to meet immediate needs as they arise.

Demand crashed during COVID as drivers to work and schools sheltered in place, beginning in the US in February 2020, and prices dropped likewise. Two years later, Russia invaded Ukraine and Europe, supply crashed, and the US had to wean itself off of Russian oil, as did Western Europe.  Worldwide prices spiked; Biden released oil reserves, increasing the US supply, and now the oil reserves have been replenished, though the rest of the world is still filling theirs.

Strategic oil reserves: Question: Why not fill them with cheaper oil during COVID-19 than now? Answer: the reserve tanks were already almost at legal capacity during Cvoid. The crisis arose when Russia invaded Ukraine two years later, creating a worldwide oil shortage. Biden released our reserves to counter the resulting price spike and pumped more oil, as well.
Strategic oil reserves are where we store extra oil if some unusual demand..like the war in Ukraine and Europe and America had to wean themselves off of Russian oil. Simultaneously, the oil cartels who determine the price per barrel raised their prices, too. Biden released strategic reserves, pumped more oil in the US, kept gas prices among the lowest in the world, and refilled the strategic reserves. It was a slow process because the capacity of where we store reserves and the ability to accept refills were issues. It would have been great to have filled reserves with COVID-19 cheaply, but the problem was Ukraine, and we answered by pumping more oil.
. Simply:: the US does not have an oil supply problem at this time. More oil supply is not the answer at this moment. In the future, it is not the answer, either.. The issue is not that we lack supply that drives the prices; the cartels do. Elsewhere, the rest of the world is still refilling their reserves while many still weaning themselves off Russian oil. We are now the largest oil producer in the world. We are exporting oil, too. Good timing, too, since a war could break out any time in the Middle East thanks to the Israel-Gaza-Iran issues.

Update 12/15/24: Another reason why drill baby drill will not reduce prices at the pump. Gist of the article: supply and demand are set internationally so that even producing more oil will not affect prices at American pumps..
