The House on December 14, 2023, launched an impeachment inquiry to make Joe Biden look as bad as their leader, Donald Trump looks. It is significant that when the chips are down, vulnerable GOP House representatives will do what is against their better judgment to stay in Trump's good graces. They are likely to support Trump's "retribution" promise beginning on day one of his second term to indict, prosecute, or impeach his political enemies even if no evidence or probable cause existed. ‘Openly authoritarian campaign’: Trump’s threats of revenge fuel alarm | Donald Trump | The Guardian
GOP House members who represent districts that voted for Biden in 2020 cannot be counted to vote their conscience under threats of being primaried. they are now even more vulnerable. They rationalized their vote, lured by the argument and probably fear of being primaried that "this was only to give the House impeachment committee power to issue enforceable subpoenas. It does not mean they would vote for impeachment ". They just made the case they are still in Trump's pocket and cannot be trusted. I can see the attack ads being written now by Democrats running against them in the 2024 campaign when all House members are up for a vote.
The House impeachment inquiry committee trying to find a basis to impeach Biden for his son's serious misdeeds at a time when Biden held no political office has gotten nowhere. They have held only one hearing before this vote to give them the power to enforce subpoenas to attend hearings.. So far, there was no evidence that Joe Biden participated in or profited from his unfortunate, drug-addicted son's business dealings. The committee chair could not even name the crime supposedly Biden committed, much less anything that rose to high crimes and misdemeanors, the criteria for impeachment in the Constitution.
That this exercise empowering the attempt to impeach Joe Biden can backfire.,. Democrats can make a strong case that this kind of empty evidence of a Biden crime family is exactly the kind of priorities that will consume a second Trump presidency. . His "retribution" campaign will consume a Trump presidency once he replaces all of the brass at the DOJ and the FBI with sworn loyalists to Trump himself and then consolidates his power. He is acting like a mafia boss, to which House Minority Speaker Hakeem Jeffries alluded in his response to the vote. (If Trump were already in the Oval Office, his modus of operandi as a mafia boss would be called being a dictator enforcing his power by fear, primaries, and persecution)
