Congratulations, MAGA, you have now turned America into the nightmare our founders warned us about

Congratulations, MAGA, you have now turned America into the very nightmare our founders warned us about. In modern terms, per this opinion piece, we have turned into a fascist state (no ovens yet, just concentration camps and military occupation). Horrors, you say, how dare you call this fascism. If it isn't, what is it? Give me a better word. Then tell me how this benefits your daily life with a president obsessed with amassing power to the extent he can ignore your needs, whether it is affordable and effective modern health care, groceries, shelter, and the ability to object and be heard or to get him to change course. The more power he gets, the less he has to listen to us and how we live our daily lives. We once had a form of government of, by, and for the people. Now we have a government that has become the government of, by, and for, an all-powerful individual. He is taking away ordinary people's ability to cope and the right to object, complain, without fear or favor, or fairness, and affect what he does. He's got his agenda and if it is not yours, or in the future it turns out not to be yours, you are SOL. Did you vote for this?

What kind of dictator, this wannabe (per Gov. Pritzker) aspires to be: a fascist one?  From, a prior post: MUFTIC FORUM BLOG: What is fascism and does Trump meet the definition rev.8/13/2025 updated 8/14- 15/2025 Trump is acting like a dictator and, in many respects, like a fascist one, depending on the definition or criteria. An Australian political scientist in 2013 published a study of 1930s fascist dictators and identified some common characteristics.  In any case, you do not have to have Nazi extermination ovens to still be called a fascist. Are those who support Trump fascists, too? Take the Britt test below. Dr. Lawrence Britt, an Australian political scientist, wrote "14 Defining Characteristics of Fascism" after studying the fascists of the 1930s.

For those who wonder where they fit in, take the Britt test

In bold print are Britt's defining characteristics of fascism. In Italics, my reason for contending Trump is meeting or not meeting those characteristics.

Nationalism: saying one's own country is better than other countries. Not exactly: Trump contends the US is failing and other countries are taking advantage of us.
Disdain for human rights: The core issues are around due process, and cruelty in imprisonment and snatching off the street because a person looks like a "Mexican". Trump would welcome those from Norway, however, to migrate to the US. Obviously, white people are not targeted.
Scapegoating: blaming someone else for the country's problems: Trump is constantly whining about migrants from south of the border who are rapists and murderers and criminals; now he and his supporters are hinting they want to stop birthright citizenship and revoke refugee status, as well as revoke already granted citizenships.
Putting the military first: Only if it pledges loyalty to Trump, passes his test for that, or is not led by women, non white people, gays, etc. The assumption is that black and brown people and women are inherently not as competent as men. More faith is put in paramilitary ICE, masked, not in uniform, pardoning militias, unregulated, from violent acts that were found guilty by juries for insurrection. Insurrection is fine if it is done in support of Trump, is the message. His use of the national guard on streets does not address underlying problems of homelessness and crime, but is only for show, a temporary drama, and an attempt to see if he can get away with declaring a bogus emergency, nationally or locally as a way to assert his willingness to use the military against their own fellow citizens as his campaign of fear and suppression of demonstrations of opposition. (His use of the military to get us used to armed occupation to put down any demonstrations and the pretension and show that he cares about crime, as he grants pardons to criminals who supported him.)

Sexism: saying men are better than women: End DEI, equal rights for genders, and a mantra incompetent in military (as above) and tolerates Hegseth's religion that women shouldn't even be able to vote; found in civil suit Trump was liable for rape, has: boasted of p grabbing and now his relationship with Epstein, his attempt to sidestep and hide evidence. is causing suspicion as he is hiding something and apparently fears exposure.
Control of mass media: telling newspapers and other sources of news what they can and cannot tell the people: Threatens to yank broadcast licenses, forces broadcast media mergers until they fire objectionable comedians; cuts funding the public broadcasting; stops access to White House briefings if he does not like the reporter.
Focus on national security: Crickets on this one. Trump undermines cybersecurity funding, trusts Russia's CRU more than the US CIA,... Uses bogus claims of national emergency to bring in active military and national guard; once, Trump tried to get the military to shoot black lives matter protestors in the legs. Ok if Russia interferes in elections or land-grabbing aggression, undermines NATO. Hints would not honor article 5, does not care if Europe feels threatened if Russia takes all of Ukraine, advocates peace at any price, even if it endangers world or regional peace. Thinks appeasement works.
Close ties between religion and government: Follows and achieves white nationalist Christian plan (Project 2025) to replace the personnel in the various branches and agencies with their ideologues..
Protection of businesses and corporations: Destroys or subverts consumer and environmental protection agencies; gives special tax breaks to corporations; tells lies that tariff costs are not passed on to customers in higher prices
Suppression of labor power: preventing labor unions from becoming powerful: against right-to-work laws; promotes non-union auto assembly shops, puts flunkies in charge of the NLRB
Disdain for intellectuals and the arts: telling people not to listen to scientists, scholars, and artists, took over the Kennedy Center; trashes White House historical decor with gold gilt; anti-science in control of scientific agencies like Robert Kennedy Jr.; calls any evidence of global warming a fraud; disbands key climate and weather forecasting agencies. Dictates to Harvard and Columbia what curriculum should be, or lose government contracts, and then uses them to cow every other research institute associated with a private university with similar threats
Focus on crime and crimefighting: Ignores crimes that are committed by supporters or pardons those convicted of crimes who he likes, January 6 rioters, and even criminals and murderers imprisoned in foreign prisons. Using "national security" bogus excuses to crack down on local enforcement agencies in DC and LA, while threatening other major cities that have black mayors.
Corruption: conducted in plain sight with his cryptocurrency, with sales and investments based on his name and position, selling access to foreign interests to him for dinners, etc, hiding campaign contributions in crypto; accepts gifts (747) from princes;
.Fraudulent elections: Claims any vote where the tally goes against him is always because the election was stolen or there was fraud, always without evidence. Tried to get loyalists to get control of voting machines; claimed over 60 state elections were fraudulent in 2020, and no court found evidence of it; Still claims the 2020 election was stolen but never coughed up evidence after 5 years of trying.. Instructed Texas to start gerrymandering districts to get 5 more House seats and in order to misrepresent voters' will, deprive racial minorities of Congressional representation, and fix the 2026 elections. They want to federalize elections and take the administrative power away from states, giving Trump the power to more easily control the outcome to benefit him. Trump wants to control the vote count by federal control of voting machines and banning mail in ballots. He got his advice from Putin, per the New York Times. What is fascism and does Trump meet the definition rev.8/13/2025 updated 8/14- 15/2025

Is Trump a fascist of the 1930s type?  If you do not like to call someone a fascist because it is too inflammatory, then call it what you want and look at what he does. The similarity is hard to deny, however. At the very least, Trump is acting like a dictator (a tyrant, a king, an autocrat who rules by a single strong man and ignores or subverts the rule of law and lower court rulings, or creates his own rules and laws  ), the very reason our form of democracy was constructed to prevent.  MUFTIC FORUM BLOG: So is Trump now running for dictator. Fools might hope so.

.The next question is what kind of dictator, a fascist one?  Trump is acting like a dictator and, in many respects, like a fascist one, depending on the definition or criteria.

Update: 8/14/2025https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/border-patrol-gov-gavin-newsom-news-conference-los-angeles/#:~:text=Chelsea%20Hylton%20is%20a%20web,WE%20WILL%20NOT%20BE%20INTIMIDATED!%22   This is what fascism looks like. Did the guards go rogue or were they acting on instructions from the White House or a Trump official?  The issue was Texas's dirty trick of attempting to do a mid-decade carve-up of congressional districts so that Trump's minions could fix the 2026 midterms and get more GOP seats.  Newsom was announcing his fighting fire with fire, and this show of Trump's paramilitary border guards, heavily armed, is engaged in pure military-like fear tactics. Welcome to fascism: 2025 style.

Update 8/15/2025  A recruitment poster/ad by ICE:" Join to defend our culture". Homeland Security on X: "Serve your country! Defend your culture! No undergraduate degree required! https://t.co/eKOWvUl2uK https://t.co/IflX0u9Tb8" / X That is an overt appeal to those who like using armed force and being secret masked armed men to "defend your culture". Whose culture? This is not even subtle. It is a dog whistle to those who want to rid our country of migrants who are not white, and so they would show no mercy to anyone, citizens, green card holders, or even those who have no criminal record, grabbing them without warrants, to heck with due process,  if they even looked "Mexican" or Asian..  That is not my culture.  The type of person this ad would have appealed to in the 1930s in Germany would have joined the brown shirts, the SS, and the Gestapo.   This is what fascism looks like.

Update: 8/20/2025:  As part of the White Nationalist influence ii the GOP as personified by Project 2025's anti-DEI purpose, now the Trump regime is trying to rewrite official history (revisionism like the Chinese and Russian communists undertook to justify their policies) by pressuring the Smithsonian to stop portraying slavery as so terrible. Trump says the Smithsonian focuses too much on 'how bad slavery was' If the Smithsonian complies, it will become the Trump Propaganda History icon.  Its lies will be revealed by the preservation of the real history of slavery in America by many institutions not dependent on federal funding.

This recent outrage, coupled with recruitment appeals to racists to join ICE "to defend your culture", is the newest example of the racist nature of some of Trump's core supporters.. The setting up of those who are of a different color as a threat to the ruling race to rationalize such behavior is also a characteristic of fascism.

If you accept the idea that Trump is a dictator and probably a fascist one,  are those who support Trump fascists, too? His support is holding firm with a very slight erosion. My guess is either those still in the GOP think this is a bunch of liberal noise or they are fine with having a dictator or even a fascist as their leader/president. He has a tiny slippage in the most reliable public poll I consult. Has Trump lost any support from Republicans? Here's what a new Pew poll found If there is any slippage in general polls o voters, it is that he has turned off significant numbers of independents who are not smitten with hero worship and blind faith in him or who fear his damage to the economy in the near future and/or still care whether democracy survives. Polls turn sour on Trump as he hits new lows with independents     The worst stuff has not hit the economy yet. MUFTIC FORUM BLOG: MAGA supporters cheer Trump's economy, but the stuff has not hit the fan yet

Please do not refer to Trump as the leader of the free world

Please stop referring to Trump as the leader of the free world. Trump is fast turning the USA into a pariah nation and a bully while destroying freedom in his own country. He is obsessed with consolidating power in his hands by abusing power and conducting a campaign of fear and retribution to shut up his opposition and political adversaries.  His preferred alliances are with other pariahs and bad actors, from Putin to China to even Hungary and Turkey. We are no longer a democracy, but Trump's method of operation resembles the fascist leaders of the 1930s. MUFTIC FORUM BLOG: Take the test: is the Trump regime is already a fascist government

There are few of us left alive who realize what living in a dictatorship, communist or fascist, is like or what freedoms are taken away that you once enjoyed. Those who wish for such a dictatorship/strongman/rule by a single or small group/ autocracy/tyrannical king, fascist,  are ignorant fools, even if the wannabe dictator is one making promises of policies you favor. If the dictator fails to deliver, and you object, you, too, will be on his enemies list if you seek any favors from your once-beloved leader.  It is the opposite of what freedom means in a democracy.

Trump's newest example of fear and retribution: find bogus, unrelated to official conduct ways to attack political adversaries to Trump himself, past and present, such as  Letitia James and Adam Schiff. These   Department of Justice actions are designed to make an example of them of what happens if you cross him.  Whether the DOJ succeeds or not, it is the pain they hope to inflict on adversaries with expensive defense and bad propaganda, whether there is any fire causing whatever pretense or any smoke.

He fancies himself as a strong man and acts like a dictator, issuing executive orders that, on their face unconstitutional, to see how much he can get away with. The trail of court decisions for and against Trump's interests are witness to that. One you count on from the Supreme Court majority 6-0 majority: if the power of the presidency is the issue, decisions will favor giving Trump more power.

Only one thing may stop him: the stupidity of his judgment on economic policies that could lead to a recession. It certainly is already obvious that his promises for lower prices, fuel, food, and necessities are going to be ignored.  It is certainly not becoming more affordability for those hoping for some relief from the increasingly higher cost of living. Any attempt to present made-up or distorted, or suppressed data will mean nothing if middle America sees and experiences reality themselves.  Tariffs and less access to health care providers are only part of the problem, as fear still lurks of a Trump-made recession.

We are no longer the home of the free and our homeland is full of cowards. How do we know this? To speak out in any way that shows disloyalty to Trump himself, the media, or personal social media postings in the past or present, will get you on his enemies list if you come to the administration, hat in hand, or to redress your grievances or seek a job in his government of even a promotion to flag officer in the military. Loyalty to Trump trumps all. Loyalty to the constitution means nothing to him, but is a barrier to be broken.  A reality check: We are no longer a free country and the home of the brave, but if we speak out, we will have consequences. The brave will do it anyway, or the cowards will dominate the response to a bully, from broadcast media to major law firms and any elected official facing the prospect of a partisan primary. If you dare speak out on the civil rights of migrants or a racial minority who is a fellow citizen, you are now calculating whether you want to take political risks and suffer consequences to your well-being or your family's. That if opposition demonstrations get too powerful, expect a dictator like Trump to claim there is a national emergency where there is none, and send in the military.   That is what it means to be the subject in a country run by a dictator.   We are seeing it happen before our very eyes.

It is not too late to fight back and aside from waiting for the economy to collapse,  we can begin by taking back the House in 2026...and for that reason, the Texas gerrymandering dirty trick to distort and steal the vote must be stopped.  If it means fighting fire with fire, I am all in.

MUFTIC FORUM BLOG: Happy to have Trump act like a strong man leader? Careful what you wish

From a Muftic Forum facebook posting: another test of what is fascism:

It would be easier to look at this list of what fascism is and see which ones do not apply to the current regime. So far, it looks to me he meets all of the criteria...or at least a case can be made. This list is from a earlier post on my blog. Does Trump resemble any of the fascists? He began his political life with "birtherism" to try to delegitimize the first African American president, calling immigrants rapists and murderers and terrorists from the beginning of his campaign and praising white nationalists and militia hate groups as patriots and fine people.., This culminated in January 6 violence mostly fueled by those carrying confederate flags, and neo Nazi symbolistic insignia and banners, Instead of brown shirts of Nazis, in Charlottesville, they were dressed in polo shirts and recently in Arizona crowds awaited the "forensic audit" dressed in mail order camo, waiving weapons of war accompanied by military-like trained dogs., These are who Trump has called patriots and fine people. This is the kind of governance Trump likes and praises. , This is the future of America he favors. He made strides in his first term. Happy to have Trump act like a strong man leader? Careful what you wish

Happy to have Trump act like a strong man leader instead of the kind of democracy we have had for 250 years? Between 26 to 38% of Americans do.  Careful what you wish. Someday, the shoe may be on the other foot. Trump's attempt to deflect interest in the Epstein files and his high-handed forcing Congresspeople to vote for the Big Beautiful Bill, even if it was against their constituents' interests, are examples of how the absolute power of a strong man leader can also blow back even on his own loyal supporters.

38% of Americans under age 30 support nondemocratic alternatives, compared with 29% of those ages 50 to 64 and 26% of those 65 and older.  https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/02/28/who-likes-authoritarianism-and-how-do-they-want-to-change-their-government/

A reminder in plain English: The downsides of autocracy, rule by a single strong man often backed by a few rich and powerful, are many:

1) The people's voice and needs can be easily ignored with so much money and power in a few hands and few checks left to curb abuse of power, with loss of the ability to protest government policies and to expose or prosecute corruption. The federal government is in charge of who qualifies to vote and how the vote is counted, taking away that power from individual states, and making it easier for a strongman leader to control the outcome..

2) It is unfair to favor those with power and money and subvert or ignore laws that all once had to abide by. Promises made to attain power are not kept, but once in power, they can be excused. Example: Lowering living costs and releasing the Epstein files are campaign promises that have been ignored. These oligarch cohorts will feather their nests before they contribute crumbs to the masses, and then grant us enough to keep the masses from getting too restless.. Tax cuts overwhelmingly benefit the rich, offsetting losses to the federal treasury by reducing government services that taxpayers value, such as Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security, which citizens have already paid for through their own taxes and which have been approved by a rigorous congressional process, garnering broad public opinion support.

3) Fear shapes words and actions throughout society, government, journalism, and business..Those not at the top of the power hierarchy are motivated to shape their own actions and speech to avoid the consequences of not being loyal to the ruling group. Threats of harassment by prosecution without probable cause or any evidence of wrongdoing, and the loss of following primary or government contracts, are used as weapons to suppress opposition. Violence against dissidents and protestors is permissible, both by military and partisan loyalists. Educational institutions are compelled to teach children the ruling party's ideology, religion, and its perspective on history.

4) Keeping control of data and facts to make the regime look better and the citizens in the dark.

How do I know this? Show me an autocracy in the modern world where much of this does not happen. from China, to Russia, to Hungary.

Trump's attempt to deflect interest in the Epstein files and his high-handed forcing Congresspeople to vote for the Big Beautiful Bill, even if it was against their constituents' interests, are examples of how absolute power can blow back on his own loyal supporters.

Trump is acting like he is a strong man, dictator, autocrat, tyrant King already. He has reasons to believe he can.. The powers he has been given, much by the Supreme Court, have gone to his head. He has immunity from criminal prosecution. He ignores lower court orders he does not like. He rules by executive order until "his" Supreme Court tells him he can or can't. He abuses his powers to strike fear into the hearts of his rubber-stamping Congressmembers, threatening primaries and ridicule to anyone who dares protest. He threatens to prosecute former presidents, former candidates opposing him, and entertainers who are critics.. He even tells his followers to shut up about news that puts him in a negative light. The Epstein flap is a case in point.

Keeping track of how Trump is acting like a one-person dictator: Instead of giving priority to prosecuting those who commit crimes against the people of the US, he is absorbed by his obsession with those getting even with those who are his political enemies..

Trump's style of governance: keep secret any data that would expose the Trump regime in a bad light...Not only did he fire the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics who dared show unemployment is ticking up, but he tried to play keepaway from both the American public and Congress regarding executive branch expenditures. On the former, his damage to his credibility and trust, already bad, is worse, and on the latter, he got a slap down by an appeals court. Let's see how "his" Supreme Court does or does not act on these issues. Two more examples of Trump acting like a one-person rule and fooling the American people as he does it.Appeals court rules against Trump admin in big case — and gives deadline to comply

Is Trump a fascist? It would be easier to look at this list of what fascism is and see which ones do not apply to the current regime. So far, it looks to me he meets all of the criteria...or at least a case can be made. This list is from a earlier post on my blog. Does Trump resemble any of the fascists? Fascism in action: Trump takes retalitory action against Harvard update tp 5/27/25

Trump administration says Harvard can no longer enroll international students

Trump again blasts Harvard over international students as judge blocks revocation : NPR

Trump cuts all federal contracts with Harvard: Harvard president urges school to stand 'firm' against Trump as prez yanks all federal funding    $3 billion dollars worth

Fascism in action: Trump administration takes retaliatory action against Harvard for ideological reasons...they refused to bow down to demands to purge faculty and course instruction that reflected Trump's anti-DEI ideology. A quarter of Harvard students are international. Harvard's ability to conduct research is likewise being crippled. Harvard will take this to court...but the lesson for the rest of US universities Trumpism sends is loud and clear. Fold, or you too will be Harvard.
Fascism and soviet communism have in common some of the same dictatorial methods. The last time I saw that happen was in communism. Communism and fascism use the same techniques to control the heart and minds of their citizens. I was a first-hand witness to how communists gained control of universities in Berlin and in Yugoslavia when I was a student in Berlin in 1958. The result was a brain drain as the best and the brightest fled East Germany for the academic West, and it is why the Wall was built a couple of years later.

Totalitarianism: another term for fascism

There is an old term, a leftover from WWII and the Cold War. It refers to Nazis, Soviet Communists, and other full blown dictatorships regardless of ideology. It is totalitarianism. The Trump administration's war on Harvard is an example of what could be a beginning. Totalitarianism means not only control over the function and public policies of government, but control over what individuals and nongovernmental institutions should think, do, believe, speak about, and promote. If the edicts are not obeyed, there will be consequences ranging from defunding to closing them down, if not sending the non-compliant on a trip to a gulag or the ovens. Academic freedom is no longer, nor are First Amendment rights. The purpose is not only to promote the ideology of the dictator, but also to control the minds and bodies of their citizens so that there is no opposition to the dictator's power.

The original demand letter from the Trump administration was to virtually take over the curriculum, the appointees to the teaching staff, and the ideology(anti-DEI?) to which the University was to be loyal.Read the Trump Administration’s Letter to Harvard - The New York Times The pretext was anti-Semitism and pro-Hamas demonstrations; they (the Trump administration) deemed them out of control ...The violator was the president of Harvard, in particular, who is Jewish. Upping the threat, Trump now threatened to remove the tax-exempt status of Harvard and announced the freezing of 2 billion in federal funds and grants, which Harvard countersued. Then, Trump escalates fight against Harvard - POLITICO threatening to yank tax-exempt status and control foreign student admissions.  This is not just Trump's war on Harvard but also an attack against all other private universities in the US if Trump succeeds with his threats. Most of his threats are unlawful or unconstitutional, but likely popular with some of his base elements who resent intellectuals,  creative and critical thinkers, and even reject science.

The same was attempted on my alma mater, Northwestern, whose president is Jewish. Gov. Pritzger of Illinois, also Jewish, railed at his religion being used as a pretext. Gov. Pritzker blasts Republicans and ‘do-nothing Democrats' in fiery speech (FULL)(see minute 17.8-9)

MUFTIC FORUM BLOG: Fascism is shaping youth to believe in the leader's ideology: it's happening

From my Feb. 8 blog post:

In modern times, dictators achieve their position and keep it, not by ovens, or even gulags. They do it by controlling the message: "The central goal remains the same: to monopolize political power. But today’s strongmen realize that in current conditions, violence is not always necessary or even helpful. Instead of terrorizing citizens, a skillful ruler can control them by reshaping their beliefs about the world. He can fool people into compliance and even enthusiastic approval. In place of harsh repression, the new dictators manipulate information. Like spin doctors in a democracy, they spin the news to engineer support. They are spin dictators. How Do Dictatorships Survive in the 21st Century? | Andrew Carnegie Fellows | Carnegie Corporation of New York

Taking a lesson from history, we have experience with dictatorships that do more than just control the mechanics of government: They control those they govern's hearts and minds, too.: Communist takeover in Europe post World War II followed another dictatorship in Germany, Hitler's. The ideology was different, but the techniques to get and maintain the hearts and minds of those they ruled were similar. It was more than just the form and practice of a government. One was "the dictatorship of the proletariat," and the other was fascism, but they both required ideological purity of the hearts and minds in all aspects of their subject's lives, not only in their daily work-a-d ay jobs and obeyance of laws but also in their heads and hearts, beliefs and arts. We called it "totalitarianism" once, a term that has not been used lately. It is not just control of the reins of government. It is the control by the government of thoughts, personal lives, who or if they worship, which news and what slant of the news they get, what music they hear, what literature they read, which kind of movies they see, and what kind of art is politically correct, all in service to the political leadership.  Diversity of thought and lifestyles are suppressed or access denied.  That is the worst kind of dictatorship, one that demands conformity of entire lives, or else. It is time to dust off the term "totalitarianism" as an extreme form of dictatorship and to recognize it as an evil to fear and to resist.  We are not there yet, but we could be.

Fascism is shaping youth to believe in the leader's ideology: it's happening : Update 8/1/2025

Now one of Trump's top advisors only wants funds to go to educating kids who reflect his view of democracy. Stephen Miller claims that children are being taught to be 'communist' in schools. What's communist about it?|Spell it out. He did. Communism is woke culture. (So that means diversity, equity, and inclusion are communist?. Dang...and I thought they were Christian concepts. ) Pope Leo XIV may have some ideas about this, too. 'Our new woke pope': Newly minted pontiff’s post slamming JD Vance lights up social media

Removal of Trump From Smithsonian Impeachment Exhibit Sparks Outrage - Newsweek Rewriting history to make the dear leader look flawless is the stuff China and other doctorship run countries use to control the thought of their subjects. That Trump was impeached twice is now removed from the Smithsolnian museum.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/05/22/oklahoma-schools-teach-2020-election-big-lie-trump/83731606007/ This is not civics ; this is brain washing. of children. It is what is done in communist and fascist dictatorships. There is a good reason Okahoma education ranks 49th in the nation and is such a ruby red state. There is a correlation.

How about teaching kids American history and why we have a separation of powers, the Bill of Rights to protect us from an overreaching and abusive federal government, and protect the civil rights of all of us, and how we fought fascist ideas and their methods in World War II.

Update 5/14/2025 Here is a problem, however, if whatever civic education is required nationally, the contents can be controlled to suit whatever party or wannabe dictator is in charge of the Department of Education, or whatever parts of the federal government have the power to set policy. One way to deal with that is to tie the exam or course contents to the citizenship test required in the naturalization process as part of any enabling or funding legislation. One problem is that civics is no longer part of achievement testing scores, so it is no longer emphasized in our education system. A passing grade in civics, tied to the citizenship test, should be required for graduation from high school.

If anything, Miller's contribution to the Trump regime is his anti-immigrant stance, including using the cruelty of family separation as a tool and in deporting immigrants without due process. He is viewed as an extremist in these sensitive matters. Given his anti-immigrant reputation, I doubt if the Bill of Rights and the civil rights-related amendments would be high on his required list of curriculum topics. The Southern Poverty Law Center tags him as an extremist.https://www.splcenter.org/resources/extremist-files/stephen-miller/.

Per Google AI  "in rankings related to K-12 education, Oklahoma generally performs poorly, often being ranked near the bottom. Specifically, U.S. News & World Report and The Annie E. Casey Foundation's Kids Count report place Oklahoma 48th and 49th respectively in educationWalletHub's study also ranks Oklahoma as having one of the worst public school education systems. "
