 Gen. John Kelly, 4 stars, retired, and Gen. Mark Milley, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, retired. Both were quoted in the media, and Kelly had his comments on tape this week. Both agreed that Trump fit the definition of a fascist. The reaction has been varied, including "You gotta be kidding," "No kidding, those kinds of guys do not kid," "They were fired, disgruntled employees," and, unspecified, " Harris is worse.""John Kelly is "low life"and "Hitler did some good things",  replied Trump. Harris on 10/24 joined in with also calling Trump a fascist. Harris says Trump 'is a fascist' after official said he praised Adolf Hitler | AP News     A group of those also former staff for Trump in the White House signed a letter in support of Kelly's audio and reported statements. ‘This is who Donald Trump is’: Ex-Trump administration officials sign open letter backing John Kelly’s claims Both generals had up-close and first-hand experience in Trump's first term. (Milley was Trump's appointee as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and Kelly was Trump's longest-serving chief of staff.) Both served to put the brakes on Trump's worst illegal demands and attempt to defy the law and Constitution. Milley was ordered to use the military against US citizens. He told him, "No", you can't do that because it is against the law (oh? Don't forget he's got immunity now in 2024 from prosecution for breaking the law, remember?)Milley put it in writing in a draft letter of resignation he had sworn to uphold the Constitution, not a person. Milley, quoted in Bob Woodward's book WAR: Trump, was a "fascist to the core." Kelly, on the tape released this week, said Trump "fit the definition' of a fascist," and he was motivated to come out publicly last week because of Trump's repeated statements that he would use the military against his political enemies and opponents who Trump called" the enemy from within.."

 What part of the definition of fascists did  Trumpt try to match in the past and promises he will match if re-elected. John Kelly comes out swinging against Trump, says he fits 'fascist' definition   Per Kelly:" The former general held nothing back, arguing that Trump could fit the bill of a "fascist.""Well, looking at the definition of fascism: It's a far-right authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology and movement characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy," he told The Times". 

With Gen. Milley and Gen. John Kelly and Kamala Harris calling Trump a fascist, does that make MAGAs fascists, too? With Trump saying Hitler did some good things, does anyone care? Calling someone a fascist is no longer inflammatory? So take the Gen. Kelly test. You may be a fascist unawares. If you answer yes to what you want, look in the mirror. Kelly's definition: dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy (ie. one race or class is superior to others)

Trump fits all of them, and which part does Harris match (hint:0)?  The enabling document: Project 2025Once again, the definition of a fascist and is the kind of a country we will become if he succeeds follows.

Trump only wants yesmen to serve him and no constraints. If he wins the presidency again, neither one, Kelly or Milley, or anyone of their caliber and with loyalty to the Constitution will be around. If Trump wins the presidency again, he will also have immunity if he breaks the law, courtesy of his compliant Supreme Court ruling. If Trump wins the presidency again, he has the blueprint, a manual that shows him how to become a fascist ruler it is Project 2025 that shows the way to do it is by firing those who are not loyal to Trump and replacing them with those who will do as he orders, subverting the intent of the law, without Congress having to send him a piece of legislation to sign.

Whether Trump is an appeaser or not will be on the agenda, no doubt, in the VP debates on October. Expect JD Vance to respond to that accusation if Walz makes it. What MAGA should have learned from the past 85 years is that appeasement of a determined aggressor leads to war, not peace. Appeasement is fool's gold. It leads aggressors to epic miscalculations. To aggressors, appeasement is a signal of weakness and lack of resolve of their target takeover. It is not a bone thrown to keep the dog quiet. Japan and Germany thought the American Firsters opposing involvement in Europe would keep the US neutral and provide easy pickings to get away with their territorial grabs. Japan and Germany learned a hard lesson...but at an enormous expense of America's blood and treasure.

How determined is Putin to go further after he absorbs Ukraine into Russia? It may come as a surprise to MAGA to know that Putin is not America's friend. Using his own words and his published ideology, Putin's goal is to make Russia great again by making America and Western democracies weak again, perhaps more like they were before WW II., isolated and divided. Putin's miscalculation was that Ukraine would be unable or unwilling to resist what he thought was a three-day march to the Ukraine capital.  He had reason to believe he could succeed since Trump's bromance with him was a sign of lack of Western opposition, a US president who could be manipulated by flattery, the election of a comedian as Ukraine's new president, years of low-level stagnant warfare in eastern Ukraine,  and Russia's blackmailing control of oil supplies to Western Europe. His takeover of Ukrainian Crimea only got a verbal slap on the hand and some sanctions.  Instead of weakening NATO, Biden was elected. With his leadership, NATO members rallied to support Ukraine with military and economic aid because they also began to see  their own members as Putin's next target. Instead of destroying NATO's mutual defense clause, Putin's Ukrainian invasion backfired.  The membership of Sweden and Finland completed NATO's surround of Russia's western facing borders. With the prospect of a Trump return to the White House and his isolationist, anti-alliance resolve, you cannot blame Putin for still thinking his stalled takeover of Ukraine is a temporary setback. He is just biding his time until Nov.5 and Trump's election.

As VP Kamala Harris noted in her joint meeting with President Zelensky of Ukraine on 9/26/24, MAGA's demands that Ukraine agree to give up chunks of land to Russia and agree not to join NATO are identical to Putin's recent conditions to end the war. I found my soul mate last night in Chicago

 I found my political soulmate last night in Kamala Harris. I never quite fit into one or the other strict party lines. Harris was strong on national defense and America's leadership in the world. Like her, I had a background in prosecution and use of regulations for battling consumer fraud and unfair trade practices and a deep understanding of what freedom means.She is mostly an economic populist, not a racial or cultural one like MAGA.. I had first-hand experience in dictatorships, married to an immigrant seeking freedom to be what he wanted to be. She hit all of those high notes, delivered with words that Ronald Reagan could have uttered. His name was invoked by many speakers at the DNC convention. Even on social issues, the theme of the entire convention was freedom, or as Gov. Walz phrased it, "mind your own damn business". That was about as libertarian as it gets. Where there was a coming together between our political blocks was a recognition that immigration was indeed a crisis, and she offered the humane solution, the bi-partisan solution Trump torpedoed. Red, white blue, and the flag and patriotism and love of the country were regained as also accepted and promoted as a Democrat value. Democracy of the traditional American concept was defended and exhorted. Law and order were again values upheld by a career prosecutor, as Kamala Harris has been. Where there was a departure, and even that was limited, was what action and finance needed to solve middle-class hardships and seek opportunity, and that help can come from the government. Even that degree of help was tied to affordability, not free stuff, but is given according to ability, requiring paying part of it. The one free stuff exception was feeding the hungry, breakfast and lunch for young students ( lunch was also offered me in Oklahoma in the 1950s). The other obvious visual departure was the inclusiveness of all Americans in the political process, regardless of race or gender, as contrasted by Trump, who dog-whistles his appeals to only white Christian nationalists as he proposed to favor and rule as constructed in Project 2025. The one fundamental departure from the conservative philosophy of Reagan is a rejection of the trickle-down tax policy, which never worked and has resulted in a handful of billionaires getting richer while growing the national debt while claiming the US cannot afford the middle-class relief Harris proposed.

Hot air or a real threat to democracy by Trump: Vote for him He will fix it so no need to be engaged in the next election?.

Was this hot air or another real threat to democracy by Trump in his recent speech to a Christian right-wing political group on July 27?.   Trump:  If elected, Christian-related agenda will be "fixed" so much so that they would no longer need to be politically engaged."You won’t have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what? It’ll be fixed, it’ll be fine. You won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians."  Is this as bad as it sounds? Yes.  It could be seen as a threat to democracy in a couple of  ways

1)  Trump's "fix" speech was an ear-splitting dog whistle, a way to infer a promise of his implementation of an unpopular Christian right-wing agenda without being so obvious about it or addressing the details that would alarm other voters. 

 2) The votes of those opposing them would be suppressed or overturned.  Does he mean free and fair elections representing the will of the people, the fundamental characteristic of a democracy, will be "fixed" so it would not exist in the future?   This "fix" fits with another quotable slip of his tongue:" I will be a dictator on day one." 

 It is not puffery. Trump has credible plans to"fix"  both implementations of the policies and the election process. Project 2025 contains a plan for Trump to replace career service employees and appointees with loyalists and those who pass a litmus test approved by extremely conservative Christians, as well as implement the public policies they want with or without legislation. Trump's 2024 campaign promises and the Heritage Foundation all have plans for overturning the majority vote by such means as successfully carrying off the fake elector scheme in 2028 (JD Vance pledges to do what Pence failed to do if he is VP in 2028)  while undermining faith in the election's legitimacy with the "big lie", a redux of 2020.  https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/gop-group-project-2025-floats-conspiracy-theory-biden-111863482   The Supreme Court has made these plans even more possible with its bias toward Trump's interests, including granting him immunity from criminal prosecution and election-related rulings.

Yes, it does not specifically propose a federal abortion ban, but elsewhere in the document, it, in effect, does. Project 2025 supports the "culture of Life" and fetal personhood, which, if applied, would ban contraception and other related rights and procedures.

The work for the "fix" the Christian right wants is already underway and is well funded. The plan is in black and white in the 900-page document produced by Project 2025. The plan is already being excuted by the Heritage Foundation, Project 2025's mother ship, The Foundation is already screening and taking names of those applying for jobs in the next Trump administration, ready to go on day one.  A compliant Supreme Court giving Trump immunity from criminal prosecution is already in place.to deal with suits and decisions that arise.  If Harris is about the future of democracy, so are Trump's promises that should scare all but the MAGA faithful.

It should be crystal clear to those not in the Trump core in America, by Trump's own twisted definition, autocracy (dictatorship on day one) is not a democracy, yet that is what he is claiming when at a recent rally post-assassination attempt; he "took a bullet for democracy." By making America as weak as it was in the 1930s, America will not be as ""great again. "That decade was when its isolationists led to adversaries' miscalculations about America's will to resist, and they attacked the US. This Trump mantra is upside-down crazy talk, and it takes low-information voters to swallow this as the gospel truth. When it finally gets its act together, the Democratic party has plenty of ammunition to make its case, but it needs to sharpen its messaging and get in the MAGA's face to succeed. So far, they have failed to counter outrageous propaganda messages by Trump. 

Here's the case Democrats can make, and they need to task their wordsmiths to do it.

As he speaks, Trmp's party already has minions in place to overturn the November 2024 election should he lose the electoral vote (the most fundamental element of democracy: rule by the people) using pre-positioned loyal election officials and even political violence. (This is not  election integrity, but the opposite by election administration manipulation ) The blueprint for becoming an autocrat is in black and white in Project 2025, turning the executive branch and 50 thousand federal employees staffed by ideologues into a spoils system demanding all adhere to an ideology instead of allegiance to the rule of law and the Constitution. Trump tried that through Schedule F when he was in office but was stopped by staff. Now, his staff will be yes men in another term. Names have already been taken, and replacements have been applied and verified as true to their allegiance to the Heritage Foundation ideology.  Trump is beginning to understand how obnoxious Project 2025 is and trying to distance himself. He needs to be forced to tell just what part of Project 2025 he does not support. He should not be allowed to weasel out with a blanket "Well, it is radical and parts unnamed I disagree with").

 Especially damning are those parts in Project 2025 and elsewhere. Trump tried before and failed, but now can do it and succeed thanks to the Supreme Court's presidential immunity gift and loyalist appointments. Among them is putting Schedule F on steroids to replace civil servants with loyalists to the Project 2025 manifesto.  Trump has a history of political violence regarding the January 6 riots by "patriots" he summoned to the Capitol;   his demand of generals to conduct armed active military suppression of demonstrations (Lafayetttte Square, later orating the generals should be executed for that): calling neo-Nazi's fine people (Charlottesville); and his attempt to force and scare Pence to join in the fake electors' scheme.

Trump opines that America is a failure, ignoring that America leads the world under Biden/Harris in the economy's recovery from Covid and has formulated the strongest alliances since the end of World War II.  Instead, he sought a country that would join with Russia and dance to its tune on Ukraine, claiming peace in our time then (just as Chamberlain gave away Czechoslovakia in 1937. Like in the 1930s, the favored group in governance and policy were racially white, reflecting the faces raised at GOP conventions and Trump rallies.   Like in the 1930's, women are to be relegated to subservient status and no control over their own health decisions, or even birth control,  both in the provisions of Project 2025 (ideal family: women at home, men working, etc) and in his political party, as well as in his VP pick of JD Vance, who says even abused women should stay in their marriage and take the beatings.

Did Nikki Haley just play the race card?

 Shame on her. Nikki Haley looks like she just played the racial card in an attempt to take away the women's vote for Biden and or to differentiate herself from the GOP wannabe Trump alternative pack.. Intended or not, it was a dog whistle. She is playing the age card., but it is unbecoming. Trump is only 3 years younger than Biden. It is distasteful to be on the death watch of either candidate, but all seems fair in love and political warfare.

On ageism: While Trump in exile played golf and met with his defense attorneys, vowing retribution, revenge, and purging if he got re-elected, poor old Biden kept hitting hole-in-ones. Biden, in the meantime, keeps a killer pace of flying around the world to garner support for Ukraine and enlarging NATO in the face of Russia's aggression in Ukraine. Way too old Biden even got Trump's failed agenda passed: upping American manufacturing and taking it away from China, and Trump's annual infrastructure wishes and promises were turned into reality by poor old weak Biden. Using holdovers from Trump's old FBI to prosecute Trump was not in Trump's playbook, nor were indictments against Trump based on Trump's former staff members' testimony, either. Ooops. If Trump's hopes were a show of force by militias loyal to him and those who also rioted on January 6 on his behalf, that they were under the impression they would be pardoned, more ooops., Trump's closest loyalists and political advisers got the pardons. And now he pledges 1000 arrested will get their pardons to crimes most of them already pled guilty to. It is expected he will pardon himself if convicted and he serves a second term in office. The law and order GOP and Democrats have traded places. The once security hawk pro-military GOP trashes the CIA and military preparedness and traded places with the Democrats Biden, the cold warrior. Trump's third finger has been raised at laws he refuses to obey and he is being accountable even by judges he appointed... If Trump thought he would replace the federal bench with his own, poor old Biden has gotten more non-Federalist society-approved types approved by the Senate than Trump did, keeping the balance in the judiciary lower courts. https://www.msn.com/en-us/neo Poor old Joe.
