Here is Trump's problem with debates and why he will weasel out. It is not only fear of prosecutor Harris' sharp tongue and quick wit.
a) The rules he wants are FOX rules and softball questions by friendly moderators. No other debate rules are acceptable. They are "unfair", even ABC, so that becomes his excuse not to debate. Harris's response: She will be there on September 10 at ABC; if he doesn't appear.....she's have the stage to herself. Trump says he'll skip an ABC debate with Harris in September and wants them to face off on Fox News (msn.com) Stay tuned.
b) Trump does not have his intellectual focus on these details of public policy issues because he focuses on cultural issues. Instead, he avoids responding by switching topics or answering a question not asked. His core campaign methods, name-calling, fear-mongering, or disdain of "others" ( different races and genders) do not work well in a debate forum. Harris has a command of facts and could fact check hm on the spot.
c) Most issues he would defend are very unpopular per polls. He likely knows it. The less of a spotlight on them the better.
d) When pressed on Project 2025, which would amass his power and autocracy, he claimed he never read it, is ignorant of the contents, and had nothing to do with it. He has never been pressed to discuss the details or concepts like those in Project 2025 and to tell what he does not like and would not execute.-
