Biden and Trump both may benefit in very different ways from the near assassination attempt

It seems somehow even sacrilegious to speculate on the political fallout from the assassination attempt on Trump. I will do it anyway. Both benefit Trump and Biden. My initial reaction was: God, that could happen to Biden, too. So glad Trump survived. It was sheer luck he turned his head just before. No human, adult, child, politician or not, deserves to die like that. The way political differences are settled in a democracy is in the ballot box; it provides that alternative to political violence. Sadly, not all abide by that.

Biden saw the media focus on his ousting get frozen and buried in the avalanche of shooting coverage, and Biden's long-term history of banning assault-type weapons may get more serious attention. Trump will benefit, showing courage literally under fire. He was even worried about finding his shoes as he fist-pumped his signal that he was OK.  Both may get far more security details and, no doubt, the line of sight and range of weapons will be altered, staffed by more armed security.
